The OpenStreetMap experience

What do people find difficult about cycling to work? Why don’t they do it?

We could ask them. Actually, because we take an interest in these things – because we already go out and talk to people – we largely know. The roads are perceived as dangerous. Where there are safe routes, people don’t know about them. Helmet hair. Nowhere to park the bike. It rains.

What should we be doing?

Look! I fixed it for you! Everyone will start cycling to work now!

What?

Thanks to the Royal Parks, I’m quite a lot of the way there… in the last 2 weeks, they’ve made about 1/5 of my journey super smooth including pretty red tarmac. Sadly they haven’t managed to sort out the wind or the hills. Or the cars.

  2. Mmmm, bacon.

Actually, the reasons I don’t cycle to work are that I have nowhere to park a bike *at home*, and that the train is just as quick (and I get to read a book on it).

If it’s going to be that sunny please can I have a shower and changing room added to my work? And just in case it does rain, somewhere to leave clothes to dry too? Really like the hot bacon roll seller though, big improvement.
