If you're really clever, you can do it without Flash

maps.google.com (thanks to the Waterscape developer contingent for spotting that one) is a lot like what we're doing with Flash-based mapping... except without Flash. It's very very funky, and the HTML/JavaScript implementation has a few accessibility advantages over Flash. (Working under Safari is not one of them.)

The map data is from Navteq and TeleAtlas and frankly I could care less about that. It looks like generic Tiger-derived US mapping. But I'd love to know how they're geocoding the point data.

Who's going to be first with next-generation mapping in the UK? Note that another Google geoservice, Google Local, is already a year old and still US only.
