June 2007

Sadly not having Internet access on the boat means I don't buy as much through iTunes as I'd like to...

  • Living in a Giant Candle, Winking at God (album), Transit Kings (iTunes). Jimmy Cauty from the KLF, 'Dr' Alex Paterson from the Orb, and various others including Simon Day off the Fast Show. Easily the best thing to come from Cauty or Paterson since the mid-90s.
  • Troots (album), Shooglenifty (iTunes). It's a Shooglenifty album, innit?
  • Teo & Tea (album), Jean-Michel Jarre (iTunes). Bizarro but rather fun, very bleepy, new JMJ album. Fun video, too.

November 2006

  • Kill Them in the Face (album), Apeonaut (MP3 download page). Very silly big beat. 'Theme from Ming' and 'The National Anthem of Space' are the best. Mr Apeonaut is now Warlords of Pez, apparently.
  • Friends in Far-Away Places (album), Laroca (iTunes). Heard this playing in Inprint, Stroud. Last time I bought a record after hearing it in a second-hand bookshop, it was the Durutti Column's legendary 'Fidelity'. Laroca aren't actually that dissimilar, or maybe a good Lemon Jelly is a better comparison. (Excellent bookshop, too.)

October 2006

  • Superhighways, the Other Two (iTunes). The best thing any of New Order have done since Republic, except possibly 'Crystal'.
  • Coastline, Rachel Goswell (Ulrich Schnauss remix) (iTunes). I think I'd have had a Rachel Goswell poster in the early '90s had I been a couple of years older. Schnauss's 'A Strangely Isolated Place' is good, too.
  • Leave to Remain (album), Kathryn Williams (iTunes). Always good.
  • Mega Tidy (album), Llwybr Llaethog (iTunes). Manages the rare feat of remixing SFA and making the original sound normal.
  • Short Term (GLC vs New Order mix), Goldie Lookin' Chain (MP3). The GLC 'Safe as Fuck' remixes are better than the original album...
  • Shit Song (Think You May Have Heard This One Before Rave Mix), Goldie Lookin' Chain (MP3). ...especially this one.
